More abstract designs

Been really busy this last week creating more designs and playing with colour ways. Here's some sneak peeks....

Traditional seaside

Before looking into more abstract designs I concentrated on more traditional style pieces. I wanted to show my versatility in my drawings and designs. I could see these in a cosy cottage by the sea.

Abstract work

For my current FMP I have moved from traditional to be more abstract. I have been inspired by 1950s prints and abstract artists. One of my designs has been inspired by the pattern on a sea urchin. Here is a sneak peek of work from today.....

Buisness Cards arrived

My business cards finally arrived from moo.com and I love them!
Using my dog as my logo as well, can't get much more personal than that.
Would recommend moo.com to anyone, cards are a brilliant quality, delivery was quick and the price was pretty reasonable.

Full of cold but still going

Woke up this morning like death warmed up! Got a cold and I've dosed on up on cold and flu tablets. I have even traveled all the way to uni to complete my learning agreement. Tomorrow I will take to the bed with my sketchbook and try and get better before my trip to Edinburgh on Monday. Fingers crossed I won't get worse.

Promotional pack

Well I've finished my leaflets, business cards and CV to go in my promotional pack which will be handed out at Indigo/Premier Vision, New Designers and Surtex. Really glad I managed to get them all finished early, one less thing to think about.

FMP: Merging images

Had a little play on Photoshop with some of my own images. I experimented with layout and image merging.

Initial drawings for FMP

I have started doing some sketches using objects I found and photos I took for my final major project at university. Here is just a sample of them.

Current Major Project

Feeling more organised now I've got all my work on here and my facebook page, www.facebook.com/laparnelldesigns is up and running. All my flyers and business cards are ready to be sent to Indigo, Surtex and New Designers, just my CV left to go. However as well as all this behind the scenes work and paper work I am also working on my final major project at university.

My current major project is inspired by the sea. I live in Redcar-by-the-Sea on the North East coast of England and can see the sea from my house. I walk on the beach every day with my dog, Button, and one day thought "why not use this" ha! I find it laughable that I have never really used my surroundings for inspiration before. So here it is; my seaside inspired major project.
I want to focus on the patterns at the seaside rather than objects, for example; the marks in the sand, the patterns on shells, fishing nets and drift wood.

I started by going along the beach and finding objects to draw from as well as taking pictures that I found visually interesting. I collected a number of objects such as seaweed (which I had to wrestle off Button), driftwood, netting, shells etc. Here are some of my images I took that day.

Took a lot more but keeping them to myself for now. It is amazing how I look at Redcar beach now and see how beautiful it can be, especially in the winter soon. I am continuing to go out everyday and collect objects and images.

More work from Trend Bible: Woodcraft folk project

The more I search through my old files the more work I find. Here is some more work from my live project with Trend Bible. There is sketchbook work, sampling, design development and final pieces. Enjoy.
